…………Frequently Asked Questions

1)      Don’t you feel squeezed  underwater with all the pressure of the water?

·        Because your body is comprise of mostly water you shouldn’t experience any surprising squeeze or pressure to your body, arms or legs.

2)        Doesn’t it cost a lot of money to dive?

·         Once you buy your basic equipment (custom mask, scuba fins and snorkel) you can either rent daily/weekly what you need when you dive or buy equipment that you prefer to use.

3)       Do I have to be a good swimmer to scuba dive?

·         Not really.  Honestly you truly cannot swim on the surface wearing the additional gear that scuba requires.  The scuba vest (BCD) actually acts like an inflatable life preserver.  Granted you should feel comfortable in the water and not apprehensive.

4)       Doesn’t all that gear way ton?  I will never be able to carry it.

·         Above water the equipment does add some additional weight, but once underwater the water’s natural buoyancy causes you to barely notice that you have it on.

5)       Don’t you have to be in really good shape to dive down deep?

·         If you can ride a bike or walk for 45 minutes at your own pace you can dive to any recreational depth.  Being strong or physically fit is not a requirement, but being fit will enable to dive longer and more frequently.

6)       Can I dive alone or do I always have to take someone with me?

·         Diving is a “buddy” sport.  A dive partner is there to help you enjoy the moment, ensure your safety and make it easier on both of you.  You don’t need to always have a buddy because there are lots of singles out there who need a diving buddy.  Who knows who you might dive with next, even Brad Pitt or Tiger Woods!

7)       Where can I dive around here?

·         Within 3-hours of Chicago there are several great fresh water dive locations, most specially designed with underwater attractions for divers like Pearl Lake (Beloit, WI), Devils Lake (Baribou, WI), Haigh Quarry (Kankakee, IL), Mermot Springs (Champagne, IL), Bon Terre Mine (St. Louis) and even Lake Michigan!

8)      How old do I have be to dive?

·        Junior divers can be certified at age 10-14 and they become full fledged Open Water Divers at age 15.  The best part, there is NO AGE LIMIT!!!!

9)      I only go on vacation once a year so why bother investing the time for just a week per year?

·        During a week of vacation in Florida, the Bahamas or Mexico you can easily complete 14-28 dives.  That’s a lot of diving in year, and more than most people who don’t travel.  While your not on vacation you have plenty of time to dive locally on evenings, weekends and days off.  When you are not diving you can become locally involved in a dive club and share the experiences of others while learning more about this incredible sport.

10)       Isn’t diving a man’s sport?

·        Absolutely Not!!!  Diving is a sport that everyone can enjoy Ladies and Children alike.
